Do I need to register with the University of London? Yes, as it is a full University of London Honours Degree in Law, you are required to register with the University as an External student in addition to enrolling with London Law Tutors, who provide the tuition. For detailed information concerning the University of London's registration procedure please consult the External Programme Laws web site at www.londonexternal.ac.uk or their prospectus both of which include the University’s Application Pack. If a copy of the Prospectus is not received, under separate cover within the next few days, please ring the University of London directly on +44 (0)20 7862 836

What are the University of London's entrance requirements for external students? Entrance requirements are extremely flexible. Please see their web site or prospectus for details.

Does the University of London have a quota of places for External students? No, provided you satisfy the entrance requirements, you are entitled to register as an External student of the University of London.

How long does it take to get the degree? The degree can be taken in just under three years for a normal entrant and in just under two years for a graduate entrant. You may, however, take longer if you prefer. Please see the enclosed leaflet for details. Graduates might be interested to learn that, in the time it takes to gain a CPE by part time study at other institutions, you can obtain the same exemptions by taking a full Honours Degree in Law studying part-time with London Law Tutors.

What subjects can I study? If you are registered as an External student on the LLB the subjects you can study are listed on the enclosed leaflet and are, to an extent, dictated by your mode of entry. If you simply want to take individual subjects (perhaps to obtain certain professional exemptions) you may register as an Occasional student of the University of London. Whilst if you simply want to study certain topics at London Law Tutors but are not intending to take the University of London examination you are not required to register with the University at all.

Who are London Law Tutors? London Law Tutors is a private company formed by a University of London academic at the request of existing External students in the wake of the University of London’s decision to withdraw from organizing evening lectures in 1996. The company provides part-time tuition for External students taking the University of London LLB (and Occasional students studying individual subjects). All the tuition is by university lecturers and tutors, all of whom are employed within the University of London and have published widely in the areas on which they teach.

What do London Law Tutors provide? London Law Tutors provides lectures and tutorials, which are updated and reviewed each year, along with materials, coursework and mock exams. The recordings are provided on a free dedicated MP3 player to enable students to study privately wherever they are and whenever they want. We also offer an e-mail tutor system providing our students with a University of London tutor to give guidance on areas of the course they find difficult.

Are London Law Tutors the only providers of tuition for External students of the University of London LLB? No, but they are unique amongst the providers of tuition in only employing university academics to give lectures/tutorials and to mark written work.

Is that significant? London Law Tutors firmly believe that External students studying a University of London LLB are best served by being tutored and having worked marked, by academics who are at the forefront of setting the standard by which all University of London law degrees are judged.

What is your evidence? Over 200 External students register with London Law Tutors each year maintaining our position as the largest UK provider of part-time tuition for External students of the University of London LLB. In our last student survey over 95% of respondents expressed satisfaction with LLT. Whilst our exam results are similarly impressive with over 90% of those students who take their exams after studying with us passing - which compares extremely favourably with the pass rates published in the University of London Laws Yearbook.

How do you compare to the other London Institutions offering tuition to External Students of the University of London LLB? How much time does it take? There are 24 lectures in each subjects and these are provided on dedicated MP3 players and dispatched on receipt of full payment. A student taking the degree in the minimum period possible would typically need to listen to 4 lectures each week, with the opportunity to submit 16 pieces of written work over the year. The course work component is also available separately.

What is the PASS PLEDGE? It is our way of guaranteeing that every student who studies with LLT reaches their potential and provides an absolute guarantee that minimises the chances (and costs) of failure.

Can I pay by instalments? Yes in which case lectures and tutorials are despatched one subject at a time in line with payments received - thus if you are paying by instalments for four subjects the first subject will be sent to you in its entirety on a dedicated MP3 player once a quarter of the sums due have been received. Unfortunately it is not possible to send the first quarter of each subject through at that point because the lectures and tutorials are now all provided on one dedicated MP3 player which cannot be individually adapted for those paying by instalments.
