The Academics

One of the mainstays of University teaching is the giving of lectures, at which an experienced teacher who is an expert in the particular field states his/her own view of the subject, discusses difficult points and draws attention to the weaknesses in the arguments of others. This tradition is particularly important to the academic study of law where students are expected to do more than simply learn a collection of rules.

A university law degree requires students to develop their analytical and critical faculties to enable them to apply the law and to comment upon it. Students are consequently expected to consider legal issues from different perspectives placing them, amongst other things, within their intellectual, historical, social, philosophical, political and economic context.

As the University of London LLB requires External students to meet the same high standards expected of internal students of the University we believe it is important for External students to be taught by university academics who can offer such insights and who are at the forefront of setting these standards.
